On Feb 13, 2017 Express reported: A VIDEO teaching Muslims how to approach gay and bisexual people has been released by Malaysian authorities.
Malaysia is a hot bed of homophobia, according to Human Rights Watch
The three minute video released by the Malaysian Islamic Development (JAKIM) makes a series of bizarre statements – including claims that sexual orientation can be changed with extensive training.
But its release appears to be a serious bid to help Malaysians know how to interact with the gay community.
One viewer, Luq Harith, who watched the video on Facebook wrote: “Colour me surprised with rainbow colours. JAKIM actually came out with a video that is non-hateful of the LGBT community.”
And Huda Mutalib wrote: “Not impressed with the content but kudos to JAKIM for focusing on not being hateful or violent towards LGBTQ people.”
Malaysia, a predominately Islamic and conservative society, has extremely strict laws towards homosexuality and gender change surgery.
Both are illegal under the country’s main law and Sharia law.
