On Feb 15, 2016 Channel NewsAsia reported: Vincent Ng Hian Gee threatened to report his homosexual relationship with a teacher to the latter’s school and the Ministry of Education if he did not meet demands for cash and luxury items.
SINGAPORE: An unemployed man who extorted S$197,000 in cash and S$51,869 worth of items from a 45-year-old teacher was sentenced to 40 months in jail and three strokes of the cane on Monday (Feb 15).
Vincent Ng Hian Gee, 35, pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of extortion for threatening to report his homosexual relationship with the teacher to the latter’s school and the Ministry of Education if he did not meet his demands for cash and luxury items such as Chanel handbags and Rolex watches.
Ng met his victim online in August 2013 and engaged in sexual acts at the victim’s home shortly after. But the victim later felt uncomfortable and asked Ng to leave.
Disgruntled, Ng began to harass the victim and demand large amounts of money to “compensate” him, the court heard. Upon discovering that the victim was a teacher, Ng also began to threaten to expose the victim’s sexual orientation to the education ministry.
