On Apr 23, 2013 Gay Star News reported: North Korea launches homophobic tirade against UN human rights official
The openly gay chair of the Commission of Inquiry into human rights violations in North Korea has been attacked by state media over his sexual orientation
Former Australian High Court justice Michael Kirby has been labelled a ‘disgusting old lecher with a 40-odd-year-long career of homosexuality,’ by North Korean state media – saying his sexual orientation makes him a ‘ridiculous’ person to investigate the country’s human rights record.
Kirby is the chair of the United Nation’s Commission of Inquiry into Human Rights in North Korea and released a recent report detailing North Korea’s terrible human rights record which the government there has claimed is based on ‘fabrications.’
North Korea says the people who spoke to Kirby about its human rights record are ‘runaways or terrorists [who] betrayed their country with indelible crimes’ and that Kirby is a US stooge.
The North Korean Government also claims there have never been homosexuals in North Korea and mocked Kirby’s wish to get married to his partner of 40 years, Johan van Vloten.
‘He is now over seventy, but he is still anxious to get married to his homosexual partner,’ the anti-Kirby screed reads.
‘This practice can never be found in [North Korea] boasting of the sound mentality and good morals, and homosexuality has become a target of public criticism even in Western countries, too. In fact, it is ridiculous for such gay to sponsor dealing with others’ human rights issue [sic].’ Continued
